Inverurie got its name from the Gaelic 'Inbhir Uridh' which means 'Mouth of the Ury', in fact. Inverurie sits on the mouths of the Rivers Don and Ury, sitting in the Don Valley. Approximately 16 miles from the city of Aberdeen, the town of Inverurie lies in the Aberdeenshire region of Scotland.

With a battle being held there in 1745, inverurie was also part of the Jacobite Rebellion. The Battle of Inverurie was fought and won by Robert the Bruce, in 1308. The town has also seen several battles throughout Scotland's unsettled history. Who was the great-great-grandfather of the famous Robert the Bruce, david Huntingdon, the formation of Inverurie is supposedly thanks to the Earl of Garioch.

Keen mountain climbers will be pleased to hear that the towering Bennachie Mountain is only 4 miles away from Inverurie. Cycling and clay pigeon shooting, bowling, swimming, fishing, visitors can indulge in tennis, as well as an 18 hole golf course. Particularly outdoor pursuits, the town has a range of activities for visitors to enjoy.

The town also holds a traditional Farmer's Market every second Saturday and is home to one of the largest car boot sales in the whole of Scotland. Family-run businesses offering arrange of quality Scottish produce, what you will find are traditional. There are no large department stores to be found here. Inverurie has little in the way of major shopping opportunities, due to its small size.
